Program Structure

EARLY-START

Tailor the Virtual Early Start Fall Semester to your own academic needs!

CEA’s virtual study + internship program includes an online academic seminar, a virtual internship placement, and your choice of 1 to 3 additional courses. Your internship work schedule may vary depending on industry standards for your career field, time difference and will be determined prior to your start date.

The virtual internship includes an online seminar that you’ll complete independently and through virtual check-ins for a total of 22 contact hours and 120 hours at your virtual internship placement over 6 weeks. Together, your online seminar and virtual internship placement are worth 3 credits.

Your first chosen course is worth 3-4 credits, taught over 4 weeks. Your remaining courses are worth 3 credits each, and taught over 12 weeks: choose to enroll in 2, 3 or 4 courses. Depending on the number of courses chosen, you can earn from 6 to 16 semester credits in 16 weeks of instruction.

All courses will be taught in English using an online Learning Management System. You are expected to be an active participant in online forums, in addition to completing your regular readings, videos and homework. The online structure enables you to learn at your own pace during the allocated time, allowing you to absorb new content and work on your projects and assignments at your own rhythm.

Upon enrollment in the program, you will select your preferred courses and preferred internship host site. You will be enrolled into courses based on their availability, therefore we recommend you have alternative courses approved by your home university should your first choice courses not meet enrollment minimums. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.

Internship positions are selective; students who demonstrate high levels of discipline, initiative, verbal and oral communication skills, motivation, and flexibility throughout the process are most successful in securing placements. We strongly recommended that you apply as soon as possible.

The placement process involves three video interviews: a screening interview with your Internship Coach, a job placement interview with your on-site internship coordinator, and a final interview with your host site supervisor. The host site retains the final decision regarding placements, so it’s important that your interviews reflect your maturity, adaptability, curiosity, and commitment to both your career interests and the host organization.

Upon successfully completing your on-site placement coordinator interview, CEA guarantees you a placement based on the personal, professional, and cross-cultural goals reflected in your interview. All placements will be secured two weeks prior to the program start. Upon placement, you'll automatically be enrolled in your online internship seminar course.

If you have confirmed an internship placement through independent contacts, we can also support you in securing important logistics such as credit transfer. Contact an Enrollment Advisor for more details.
