General Sustainability Internship Position Description
Discover the realm of Sustainability, a field dedicated to the responsible stewardship of our planet and its resources to secure a thriving future for both people and the environment. Some duties may include but are not limited to:
1. Supporting Environmental Data Collection: Assist in gathering basic environmental data, organizing it into spreadsheets, and preparing simple reports under the guidance of senior staff.
2. Coordinating Resources for Sustainability Projects: Help coordinate basic resources, such as materials and schedules, for small-scale sustainability projects.
3. Participating in Community Education Efforts: Engage in community education by distributing informational brochures, setting up event spaces, and managing sign-ups for sustainability workshops.
4. Assisting in Research Preparation: Contribute to the preparation of research by collecting articles, summarizing findings, and organizing research materials related to sustainable practices.
5. Helping with Office Recycling Programs: Support waste reduction efforts by maintaining recycling bins, tracking office waste output, and distributing reminders about recycling practices.

Sustainability Intern at a Performing Arts Organization
As a Sustainability Intern at a performing arts organization, you’ll help embed environmental and social sustainability into the company’s operations and productions. Your work will include researching emissions sources, developing a Sustainability Policy & Action Plan, and creating sustainability guides for freelancers. You’ll also support data collection for carbon footprint reporting, contribute to sustainability communications, and, if you have digital media skills, design comms assets and templates. Additionally, you’ll assist the sustainable touring group by drafting reports, organizing sector meetings, and helping share research and best practices in sustainability across the theater industry.
Communications and Advocacy Intern at a Wilderness Society
As a Communications and Advocacy Intern at a wilderness society, you’ll assist with community engagement, advocacy, and creative projects that promote environmental protection. Your responsibilities may include supporting lobbying activities, conducting research, organizing events, and contributing to communications initiatives. You’ll also gain experience in day-to-day nonprofit operations, from office administration to collaborating with staff on impactful conservation projects.
Sustainability and Education Intern at a Sustainability Organization
As a Sustainability and Education Intern with a sustainability organization, you’ll design and lead hands-on learning sessions that involve planting, pollinator identification, and citizen science projects. You’ll also research and write articles on biodiversity conservation and contribute to a national map highlighting threatened pollinator and plant species. This role is a great opportunity to gain experience in sustainability education, conservation research, and community engagement.
