Internship Abroad Seminar:

THE MULTICULTURAL WORKPLACE

All CEA internships include an academic seminar called "the multicultural workplace" that meets around 3-4 hours per week (once or twice per week). This class allows you to share your experiences with other interns, reflect upon the work you've been doing, and learn from weekly highs and lows with a skilled faculty member.

How We Place You

At CEA, we take time with you to set expectations and explore the skills you need to succeed. We then search for the right placement, one that will support your needs and requirements for professional success. We hone in on skill development and refinement, so that you will have the full set of skills employers are seeking after graduation.
We work with you to identify:
  • The field in which you would like to work and a realistic perspective on the career.
  • The fundamental skills required for entry into the profession.
  • The skills needed to achieve long-term success.
  • Current abilities and those needing development.
Our locally-based staff will find a placement that will challenge you to build your skillset and make a meaningful impact. While we may partner with multinational companies, our preference is for organizations and companies that give you the opportunities, qualifications, and diversity of experience you need to succeed.

Internship Abroad Seminar:

THE MULTICULTURAL WORKPLACE

To help students succeed week to week in their internships and encourage them to see how the work they are doing applies to future careers, we provide a structured, reflective learning environment in the Multicultural Workplace, a required seminar course that gives students strong support and offers opportunities for growth. During weekly seminar meetings, students process their internship experiences. They discuss how applying workplace competencies can strengthen their skills during the remainder of the term. The Multicultural Workplace seminar also includes critical theory, explores the workplace from global perspectives, and covers issues that students are likely to face. Ultimately, we encourage students to tell a story of their professional experience that will be compelling to employers.

Setting Students Up for Success

At CEA, we take time with each student to set expectations and explore the skills needed to succeed.

Working together, we:
  • Outline where proficiencies can be strengthened and developed during the placement process;
  • Search for and identify the right placement that will support the student's needs and requirements for professional success;
  • Provide students with the tools to maximize their personal, professional, and academic learning potential while abroad through an online pre-departure orientation and email series, and then;
  • Actively engage the student onsite and support their holistic learning and growth over the course of their program abroad.
CEA's personalized placement process ensures that internships align with student strengths. We encourage students to develop the career readiness competencies they'll need as they transition to professional life. Our extensive network of business, non-profit, and non-governmental organization contacts around the world make it possible for us to arrange substantial placements that are meaningful for the student and have a real impact on the organization. Placements are available in English in all locations.
