CEA Forum Conference Presentations

    • Embracing the Elephant in the Room: Navigating COVID-Era Career Changes and Challenges
      1:15 PM - 2:30 PM CST (Virtual)
      • Stina M. Dufour, Ed.D., Academic Dean of Global Programs, CEA Study Abroad
      • The pandemic complicated how international educators navigate their career progression, with many colleagues losing jobs or transitioning fields. How does one plan when the future of the field is ambiguous? Learn from a panel of professionals who have navigated different transitions and enter a brave space where you can consider your own career transitions or musings.
  • Thursday, March 24, 2022
    • Enduring Partnerships: Successful Examples of Resilient Relationships in Challenging Times
      8:45 AM - 10:00 AM CST
      • Stina M. Dufour, Ed.D., Academic Dean of Global Programs, CEA Study Abroad
      • Learn how different institutions have approached successful internal and external partnerships that have stood the test of time. Understand how a private college, public university, and a provider organization have established and expanded partnerships, in step with the Forum’s Standards of Good Practice. Reflect and discuss how these lessons might apply to your institution's setting.
    • Prioritizing Mental Health, Well-being for Staff and Faculty: Lessons from Leadership to Mitigate Burnout
      3:45 PM - 5:00 PM CST
      • Lou Berends, Ph.D., Vice President of Academic Affairs, CEA Study Abroad
      • This session explores the changing landscape of the education abroad workplace. The panelists will reframe the narrative of supporting students’ mental health and well-being to also include our staff and faculty colleagues. In these new workplace settings, we will examine managerial approaches to staff/faculty well-being, and frame self-care as a way to mitigate burnout that increases productivity.
  • Friday, March 25, 2022
    • International Internships: A unique ROI for Underrepresented students going abroad
      10:45 AM - 12:00 PM CST
      • Lou Berends, Ph.D., Vice President of Academic Affairs, CEA Study Abroad
      • The “Permanent Detour” - the long term effect underemployment has on the career trajectory of college graduates - is more acute for underrepresented students (Strada Institute, 2018) because the access to opportunities that often come from “who you know” are more modest. In this session, we will explore how internship abroad programs may create an important ROI for underrepresented students.
