Excursions

Get out and explore! Excursions are offered for most semester, year, and summer programs. Semester students are typically offered between two to three excursions and summer study students are typically offered between one to two excursions. You'll receive a calendar of excursions during orientation; here are a few day and overnight excursions we've offered in the past.

Dublin is more expensive than other Irish destinations but still affordable for study abroad students. Ireland is an island and Dublin is its capital city, so expect higher prices due to imported products and high tourism rates.

Yes. All courses are taught in English, including those at local universities and the CEA CAPA Dublin Center.
Yes. Credit transfer depends on each student’s home university and its academic policies. Students are responsible for confirming credit approval with their home institution before studying abroad, as transferability is determined by the home university, not by CEA CAPA. 

Housing & Daily Life

Students typically live in student apartments with shared kitchen and living areas, within 30–45 minutes of campus.
Yes. All CEA CAPA Dublin housing options include WiFi and access to a washing machine. Dryers are not common abroad, so students should plan to hang dry their clothes, which is the standard practice in Europe.
Dublin has a reliable bus, tram (Luas), and train network. Most students walk or use public transit. 

Language & Culture

No. English is the primary language in Dublin, though Irish (Gaelic) is also used in some official settings and signage.

Travel & Exploration

Students often visit Belfast, Galway, the Cliffs of Moher, or take quick flights to mainland Europe. 
CEA CAPA excursions may include visits to the Giant’s Causeway, Glendalough, Kilkenny, and Dublin Castle. 
Dublin has a cool, maritime climate. Rain is common, so students should pack waterproof gear and warm layers. 
It rains often, but not always. Irish weather can change quickly, so pack layers and bring a waterproof jacket rather than an umbrella. You'll likely experience cool temps and drizzle even in spring, but sunny days pop up often enough to enjoy the outdoors comfortably.

Budget & Affordability

Yes. Dublin is one of the more expensive cities in Europe, but many student discounts help manage costs. 
Yes. Most housing includes kitchens, and many students cook to save money and try Irish recipes. 
No. U.S. students on study abroad programs typically cannot work in Ireland. CEA CAPA offers for-credit internships instead. 

Health, Safety & Support

Yes. Dublin is generally safe, but students should be aware in nightlife areas. CEA CAPA offers safety briefings and 24/7 support. 
CEA CAPA provides academic advising, wellness resources, cultural events, and emergency assistance throughout your stay. 
CEA CAPA helps students access local healthcare, including English-speaking doctors and nearby clinics. Insurance is included in the program. 

Application, Visas & Logistics

Yes, students staying in Ireland for more than 90 days may require a visa. CEA CAPA provides guidance and support throughout the Irish immigration and visa registration process. 
Students are encouraged to apply 6–9 months in advance to secure placement and allow sufficient time for housing arrangements and visa processing if applicable.  
Students must provide a valid passport, program acceptance letter, proof of housing, and financial documentation when applying for a study abroad visa. CEA CAPA provides a comprehensive checklist to guide students through the process.
