Some courses may have prerequisites.
1 Year of College
For your CEA CAPA Study + Internship program, you will simultaneously intern at your host organization, take the International Internship course, and take additional elective courses at IAU.
Your International Internship course meets for 45 contact hours and is worth 3 credits. You will intern at your host organization for a total of 10 weeks, not including any agreed upon break-week periods. Throughout your program, you will work 13-15 hours per week and will likely intern during standard business hours Mondays-Fridays. Your internship work schedule will be established once you arrive and may include in-person, remote, and hybrid work depending on the needs of your host organization. It will be structured around your course schedule and may vary depending on your career field and host organization.
You will also enroll in 1 French language course and 3 elective courses. Language courses meet for 45-90 contact hours/3-6 credits, and elective courses meet for 15-60 contact hours/1-4 credits. You may earn up to a total of 15-18 credits.
Before you leave for Aix, you'll submit an IAU course selection form and an IAU language questionnaire that estimates your language knowledge. An IAU advisor will evaluate your language questionnaire and transcript and either enroll you in courses or schedule a language placement exam that you'll take before your program starts. After you arrive on-site, French faculty will determine if you're in the correct language level; you'll have two weeks to add/drop if necessary.
It is in your best interest to have multiple alternative courses approved by your home university prior to your departure due to course availability. To ensure that you receive credit for the language level you place into, have your home university pre-approve courses at several levels before you leave for France. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.
Industry-Certified Career Coaching & Internship Placement Process
Once you’ve submitted your application and required documents for your internship program, you will be assigned your very own Industry-Certified Career Development & Internship Specialist, who will work with you one-on-one to guide you through the steps and deadlines of our Internship Placement Process. Your Specialist will be your main point of contact for your internship prior to your departure. They will answer any questions you might have, and will also provide you with personalized career coaching, as needed, so you are set up for success for your internship abroad.
In addition to working with your Career Development & Internship Specialist, during the Internship Placement Process you will engage with an IAU advisor in your location and your potential host site supervisor. The IAU advisor will draw from your application materials to source and match you with an internship placement that best aligns with your unique experience, skills, career interests, and goals for your internship abroad. Please also note, your host site supervisor will retain the final decision on the finalization of your placement, so it’s important to approach your interview with your host site supervisor with maturity, adaptability, curiosity, and commitment to both your career interests and the host organization.
