My favorite class that I took while abroad was the Sports Management class taught by Dr John Edwards. We not only learned about sport in Australia through classroom sessions, but we also went on a handful of field trips led by John that allowed us to see the city from a deeper perspective. He really wanted us to get the most physical learning opportunities that we could during our time in Sydney, and learning from him was definitely a highlight of studying abroad.
I engaged with the local community by exploring different parts of Sydney, and Australia as a whole to gain an expansive perspective on their culture and lifestyle. I went to many local businesses, restaurants, exhibits, etc to support the local Australians and get the most authentic experience that I could. I also think that talking to locals when you get the chance is extremely beneficial. I encountered many super nice Australians that were not only interesting to learn about as people, but sometimes they would give you recommendations (that always turned out to be awesome).
