My favorite class was International Food & Culture because it gave me a completely different perspective on the relationship between food, history, culture, and identity. Studying these topics while living abroad made the class especially interesting because I was constantly experiencing a new food culture outside of the classroom at the same time. It also encouraged me to think about food as more than just something we eat, but as something that can tell us a lot about a society, its traditions, and its history.
One of my favorite parts of studying abroad was experiencing Seville beyond the classroom and really getting to know the city. Since I am fluent in Spanish, I was able to communicate easily with locals and feel more connected to everyday life in Seville. I loved wandering around the city, exploring its parks and natural spaces, visiting its iconic monuments, and taking pictures along the way. I also enjoyed trying local restaurants and cafés, exploring different neighborhoods, attending cultural events, and experiencing Andalusian traditions firsthand. Some of my favorite memories came from simply walking around without a specific plan and discovering new places. By the end of the program, Seville felt much less like somewhere I was visiting and more like a city I had genuinely gotten to know.
