My favorite class while abroad was my watercolor class because it gave me a completely different perspective from the business-focused classes I typically take at Babson. Being in Florence made the class especially meaningful because I was surrounded by art and history. I had the opportunity to visit different museums, learn about influential artists, and then apply what I was learning through my own work. Having those experiences firsthand helped me retain so much more of what I learned. I also loved that the class allowed me to develop a completely new skill. I had always been interested in watercolor but never had the opportunity to really learn it, and my professor was incredibly kind, encouraging, and interesting. It was a refreshing change of pace from my usual coursework and reminded me of the value of trying something completely outside of my comfort zone.
I competed in a soccer tournament where we were playing against other students who lived in Italy while they were temporarily abroad, or who permanently lived there. I also went to a volunteer garden and learned more about their process and their mission, and I went on long walks where I met local and family businesses.
