HOW DID YOU ENGAGE WITH THE LOCAL COMMUNITY WHILE ABROAD?
While abroad in Barcelona, I made a strong effort to engage with the local community both inside and outside the hospital. While shadowing, I interacted everyday with Spanish healthcare professionals and patients, which allowed me to see how inner workings of the Spanish healthcare system as well as the personal connections between the patients and the providers. On top of that, I spent my days exploring local markets and shops as well as trying new restaurants and cuisines every week! These experiences helped me gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Catalan culture and lifestyle while forming meaningful connections with my fellow students.
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE CLASS WHILE ABROAD, AND WHY?
I attended the Atlantis shadowing program in the Summer 2025, and my favorite rotation was cardiology. I learned so much about the field of cardiology and was even taught how to read an EKG test! The doctor I shadowed was extremely knowledgable, and he was super happy and willing to teach me all about the heart!
