My favorite class was Spanish Culture and Civilization, because every class was exciting and we learned so much about the history of Madrid. My teacher Ignacio was genuinely such a funny guy who was transparent and genuinely enjoyed teaching. I got to visit the Royal Palace, Retiro park, and other historical spots.

I engaged with the local community by playing basketball with the locals of Chamberi multiple times a week. Although I was new to the environment when I got there and hardly spoke any Spanish, the more I played, the closer I got with the people over there. The moments I spent playing basketball with my newfound friends over there are one that I cherish, and I hope I can see them again. I also got involved with volunteering in the neighborhood of Villa Verde, a volunteering program introduced to me by CEA CAPA staff. That was a great space to practice my Spanish, and I wish I had found out about them sooner.
