My favorite class while abroad was Med Span 555, which helped prepare me for the clinical shadowing portion of my Medical Immersion Program. Through this experience, I was able to explore different areas of medicine such as Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Radiology. It was amazing to observe healthcare professionals in these different specialties and being able to learn how medicine is practiced in Argentina. I also had the opportunity to experience both public and private healthcare areas, which was also very interesting.
During my education abroad experience, I had the opportunity to volunteer at a multi-heritage center through my university. Every Friday, we would spend time with children who were learning to speak English. It was a meaningful way for me to become involved in the local community and connect with the children through language. I was able to speak to them in my native language while they practiced communicating in English, allowing both of us to learn from one another despite the different backgrounds we had. Another memorable way I connected with the community was while Argentina was playing in the World Cup. Being surrounded by local people and seeing how they were cheering and celebrating alongside the community made me feel like a true Argentine in those moments.
