WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE CLASS WHILE ABROAD, AND WHY?

My favorite class was definitely Italian at the American University of Rome. I actually did not originally plan to take Italian because I am from Barcelona and thought it might be too similar to Spanish, but switching into the class ended up being one of the best decisions I made. I loved learning the language and then going to coffee shops, restaurants, and other places around Rome and challenging myself to actually speak Italian. My professor was also amazing, and I loved that we had cultural experiences outside the classroom that allowed us to learn more about the language, the people, and the city itself.

HOW DID YOU ENGAGE WITH THE LOCAL COMMUNITY WHILE ABROAD?

While studying in Rome, I tried to experience the city as more than just a tourist. I went to local coffee shops and restaurants, explored different neighborhoods, and tried to use the Italian I was learning in class when talking with local people. My Italian class also took us outside the classroom for different cultural activities, which helped me discover places and experiences in Rome that I probably would not have found on my own. These experiences helped me feel more connected to the city and understand Italian culture and everyday life better.
