WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE CLASS WHILE ABROAD, AND WHY?

My favorite class abroad was Cultural Values & Stereotypes: Spain and the U.S. This class was so interesting because it helped us as Americans challenge our own thinking about what is considered "normal." While our focus was mostly on Spanish culture, we learned about all different types of cultures and how they differ from one another. I walked away from that class feeling like a better communicator, knowing I had a skillset to connect with people from different backgrounds.

HOW DID YOU ENGAGE WITH THE LOCAL COMMUNITY WHILE ABROAD?

I engaged with the local community while abroad by really immersing myself in the culture and the language, even when it felt uncomfortable. I practiced speaking Spanish with locals every opportunity I could, and they were always so patient and willing to help me improve. I also interviewed local Sevillanos for one of my cultural classes, which gave me more insight on their lifestyles, values, and beliefs as people. Doing this helped me understand the local community better and understand more about their culture.
