This course gives students an insightful orientation into the history of Prague. Using Alfred Thomas's Prague Palimpsest as its guiding framework, this course explores Prague as a city of layered memories, myths, literary traditions, and cultural identities. Through literature, film, urban history, and field excursions, students examine how Prague has been imagined and represented from its legendary origins through modernism, Kafka, the avant-garde, and the post-communist era.
