DESCRIPTION

This course examines the profound impact of digital technologies on human behavior, psychology, and society. We will explore how smartphones, social media, gaming, streaming platforms, and artificial intelligence are reshaping our brains, relationships, and daily lives. Drawing on neuroscience, psychology, sociology, and media studies, students will critically analyze phenomena such as digital addiction, social media dynamics, algorithmic curation, and the commodification of attention. The course investigates both the promises and perils of our digital age, from enhanced connectivity to social isolation, from democratized information to filter bubbles, and from educational innovation to cognitive challenges. Through interdisciplinary readings, case studies, and self-reflective exercises, students will develop critical digital literacy skills and learn to navigate the complex ethical, social, and personal dimensions of life in an increasingly technological world. We will also examine emerging regulatory frameworks, including EU digital legislation, and consider how society can design more humane technologies while preparing for an AI-augmented future.
