My favorite class was most likely Dante's inferno and the divine comedy. Not necessarily the most usual abroad course, I can say that it was the most fulfilling. In it, you read through Dante's divine comedy and Boccacios Decameron and worked through the complicated stories and related them both present day Florence, and to the overall world. It was my favorite because it was not something I had intended to take while studying abroad, but ended up being an interesting course and exceeding my expectations.
In visiting local restaurants and businesses, the local population of Florence was well attuned to the American study abroad student, as was most the peninsula. In Florence specifically, through events through CEA CAPA and through our Italian class, many events involved communication between us and the Florentines. Going to restaurants, local shops, and exploring more of Florence and departing the city center additionally allowed for more interaction with the local community.
