My favorite class I took in Barcelona has to be Food & Culture in Spain. This was my favorite because we learned about the culture in Spain, and how the locals spend their day, as well as how their relationships with food differ from the United States. We got to take fieldtrips to local grocery stores and examine the differences, were able to have a tapas cooking class to learn more about the popular style of dish, and engaged in wine and olive oil tastings. I love to cook and the topic of food really interested me, because I would be spending a month in Barcelona and wanted to learn and implement the lessons into my study abroad so that I could try to act like a local while living there.

While I was in Barcelona, I engaged with the local community by participating in nightlife activities, and by going to different restaurants or cafes. While engaging in the nightlife in Spain I had the opportunity to communicate and even make friends with people from Barcelona, and even people from neighboring countries. When going to restaurants I would try my best to communicate in Spanish with the locals and ask them about themselves.
