My favorite class was definitely History of Barcelona. We went over the history of the city from its earliest days as a small settlement by the coast, and followed it through multiple regime changes, revolutions, and revolts. It gave me an immense cultural context for the architecture and urban development I saw on a daily basis. We went on field trips around Barcelona nearly every other week, including places like Santa Maria del Mar and Hospital de Sant Pau which would have cost money if we went on our own time.

I loved connecting and sharing stories with my professors at LCI. Many of them were either born in the city or had lived there for many years, and they shared with us amazing insight into Catalan culture that is difficult to learn in a google search. One of my professors gave us weekly recommendations about her favorite spots and events in the city. This helped us check out places outside of the normal tourist destinations and really feel like we were becoming locals ourselves.
