Emily joined CEA CAPA in 2019 as a Program Manager and is now a Senior Custom Program Developer based in Providence, Rhode Island. In her role, Emily works with CEA CAPA's institutional partners and international teams on the development of faculty-led and custom programs. Emily is dedicated to incorporating CEA CAPA's values into custom program design, ensuring access, impact, opportunity, justice, and belonging for all students.
Emily serves as the Rhode Island State Representative on NAFSA Region XI’s Leadership Team where she organizes state meetings and conferences to engage the international education community.
Emily’s publications include “Slow Study Abroad” which appeared in CEA CAPA Occasional Publication 11: Reviewing the Situation, the Changing Landscape of Education Abroad, for which she also served as an editor. Emily is known in the field for writing about and presenting on custom program design best practices, including the use of technology to increase access, and the benefits of slow study abroad as a program design approach. Prior to joining CEA CAPA, Emily worked with international students in Boston and San Francisco as a teacher, higher education advisor, university partnerships manager, and Assistant Director of Studies. She has also led study abroad programs for veterinary students in Thailand and worked as a local journalist in Boston for several years.
She holds a BA in Writing, Literature, and Publishing from Emerson College and earned her TEFL certificate in Prague, Czech Republic, where she taught ESL to adults for one year. Emily studied abroad on Semester at Sea in Spring 2012. Emily also completed a Global Diversity Leadership Certification from the Institute for Developing Across Differences. This program is a six-month blended online and in-person certification program.
When she's not working on custom programs, she can be found at a rock concert, road-tripping to an art museum, or curling up with a book and her (adorable!) cat, Blue.
