Daniel Friedman serves as Chief Compliance Officer and General Counsel at CEA Abroad, where he leads the organization’s legal and compliance functions and works closely with colleagues across the organization to help CEA Abroad grow responsibly, manage risk thoughtfully, and advance its mission around the world. 

Daniel brings more than 25 years of legal and business experience, including senior in-house roles with global technology companies Avnet and Tech Data, as well as experience advising growing businesses through his own legal and business advisory practice. Throughout his career, he has worked across corporate, commercial, compliance, employment, intellectual property, M&A, and strategic matters. 

Daniel brings a positive, solutions-oriented approach to legal and compliance leadership and believes the best legal and compliance teams are true partners to the business. He believes in getting involved early, understanding the objective, identifying the meaningful risks, and working collaboratively to find a practical path forward. 

CEA Abroad’s mission has a personal connection for Daniel. He studied Political Science and Japanese at the University of Michigan before earning his law degree from the University of San Francisco School of Law. His longstanding interest in other cultures and perspectives makes CEA Abroad’s mission especially meaningful to him.  

Outside of work, Daniel spends his time traveling and exploring new places with his family and friends, skiing whenever he gets the chance, playing golf and tennis, and spending time with the family’s yellow lab. He is also an avid music fan, enjoys cooking for family and friends, and is always up for a new experience or adventure.
