WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE CLASS WHILE ABROAD, AND WHY?
I loved the mafia and anti-mafia class because the content was just really interesting and well-presented. My internship was at Cibreo ristorante, and I moved across multiple locations and departments. My main takeaways were the fascinating cultural differences about how businesses operate in Italy compared to the U.S. and how the workforce's attitudes are different there.
HOW DID YOU ENGAGE WITH THE LOCAL COMMUNITY WHILE ABROAD?
Tourism is big in Florence, so you have to make an effort to seek out the locals. I became a regular at a coffee shop called Il Vinile downtown, and made friends with my Italian coworkers (particularly during lunch breaks). The staff also helped me and a few other musical students organize a gig where we played a few songs in support of Italian students.
