About the Program
Experience life in Spain’s dynamic capital while studying at Universidad Nebrija (UN). Choose from a wide range of courses taught in English and Spanish, including art history, cultural studies, political science, sociology, and more. Programs are designed for all levels of Spanish proficiency, from beginner to advanced language learners, and you can either take a combination of English and Spanish courses or fully immerse yourself in Spanish courses. An Early Start option allows you jumpstart your Spanish skills before the semester begins. For the summer programs, you will pair a Spanish language course with an elective in English or Spanish for a well-rounded academic experience.

Universidad Nebrija
With an annual student population of about 5,000, Universidad Nebrija prides itself on being "the smallest of the great Spanish universities." This highly ranked private university was founded in 1995 and named after the first grammarian of the Spanish language. In 1492, Nebrija presented the first-ever Spanish grammar book to Queen Isabel; today, teaching Spanish as a foreign language is a key activity, and the Center of Hispanic Studies at Nebrija is dedicated exclusively to Spanish language training.
In addition to Spanish language and Hispanic Studies, the university also offers a wide range of academic subjects taught in Spanish and English, such as art history, cultural studies, political science, and sociology. Courses are instructed by Nebrija faculty through Centro de Estudios Hispánicos. Nebrija's small student population allows for personal attention and specialized studies.
Credit Transfer Information
Universidad Nebrija awards credits based on the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) system. CEA CAPA credit hour recommendations are based on the following conversion: 2 ECTS credits equals 1 U.S. semester credit. Credit transfer is ultimately determined by your home university. Please consult with an academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.

Students receive a transcript from Universidad Nebrija upon successful completion of the program. The transcript reflects ECTS credits.

Universidad Nebrija is recognized by the Spanish Ministry of Education as a degree-granting institution of higher learning.
Grading
Grade conversions from CEA CAPA partner institutions abroad to a US grading scale are determined in consultation with our School of Record and benchmarked with other peer institutions in the field.

Classroom and Information
- International faculty teach language courses and electives.
- Periodic exams, homework assignments, and final exams will be administered.
- Attendance in all classes is mandatory and monitored by each professor.
- Teaching styles in Spain may differ from those in the U.S. Be prepared to adapt to your school’s classroom structures and coursework expectations.
- Class size ranges between 10 and 20 students. Small class sizes mean personalized attention from instructors.
- You will attend class with international students from the U.S., Europe, Canada, and other parts of the world. Due to the superior mastery of the language required, you will not be in classes with host national students.

Program Structure & Courses
Choose a 4-week session in Session I or Session II, or combine both sessions. Each session, you'll enroll in 1 language course and 1 elective course, taught in your choice of Spanish or English. Each course meets for 45 contact hours/3 credits. Students in the 4-week session earn a total of 6 credits (up to 90 contact hours); students that combine sessions earn a total of 12 credits (up to 180 contact hours).
Classes meet Monday-Friday. Active learning components required by your courses may be scheduled for Fridays.
Prior to departure, you will select your preferred courses and take an online language placement exam to determine your language level. You'll be enrolled into courses based on their availability. It is in your best interest to have multiple alternative courses approved by your home university prior to your departure due to course availabilities. To ensure that you receive credit for the language level you place into, have your home school pre-approve courses at several levels before you leave for Spain. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines

Your housing abroad is more than a place to sleep, it's a place to feel at home.
Health & Safety
Health and safety are a top priority when selecting and reviewing program housing. When evaluating housing, CEA CAPA considers several factors including the surrounding location, commute time to academic or internship settings, as well as the condition of the building exterior and interior, common areas, the individual housing unit, and other living spaces. CEA CAPA works to ensure that program housing meets established minimum health and safety guidelines and aligns with best practices in the field.
Cleaning Services
Regular cleaning of communal areas for programs longer than 4 weeks.
Wi-Fi
Reliable internet access is included in every housing option we offer.
Students Per Bedroom
Typically 1–2 students per bedroom, with a maximum of 3 per room.
Commute Time
Housing is located within 60 minutes of campus by foot or transportation.
Temperature Control
Cooling and heating appliances are provided (AC not always included).
Kitchen Access
A shared space with basic utensils, refrigerator, freezer, and a stove, oven, or microwave.
Laundry
Access to laundry is guaranteed onsite or within walking distance. Drying racks included.
Study Space
A desk in your room or a table in a common area.
Storage Space

This option is ideal for independent students who want the flexibility and responsibility of apartment living.

To elevate your study abroad experience, apartments located within a 25 minute commute from Plaza del Sol are available for a supplemental fee. Excursions
Get out and explore! Excursions are offered for most semester, year, and summer programs. Semester students are typically offered between two to three excursions and summer study students are typically offered between one to two excursions. You'll receive a calendar of excursions during orientation; here are a few day and overnight excursions we've offered in the past.
