Immerse into a Spanish learning environment and local culture in Spain's capital. Semester programs are designed for students at the low-intermediate-and-above Spanish language level. All semester courses are taught in Spanish, allowing you to gain both language proficiency and a deeper understanding of local culture. Summer programs are designed for students at the beginning-and-above Spanish language level. In the summer, you may choose to complement your Spanish language course with an elective course taught in either Spanish or English. An Early Start option (available to semester students) helps you jump-start your Spanish. You'll improve your language skills and your knowledge of Spanish culture and history.
Choose a 4-week session in June, July, or combine both. Each session, you'll enroll in 1 language course and 1 elective course, taught in your choice of Spanish or English. Each course meets for 45 contact hours/3 credits. Students in the 4-week session earn a total of 6 credits (up to 90 contact hours); students that combine sessions earn a total of 12 credits (up to 180 contact hours).
Classes meet Monday-Friday. Active learning components required by your courses may be scheduled for Fridays.
Prior to departure, you will select your preferred courses and take an online language placement exam to determine your language level. You'll be enrolled into courses based on their availability. It is in your best interest to have multiple alternative courses approved by your home university prior to your departure due to course availabilities. To ensure that you receive credit for the language level you place into, have your home school pre-approve courses at several levels before you leave for Spain. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines
