Some students may attend US colleges/universities already affiliated with this host institution and therefore will not be eligible to attend this CEA program. Please call CEA for further details regarding eligibility specifics.
Study abroad in the south of France while participating in an American form of university education. Choose from a wide range of electives in subjects from business to communication, art history to psychology, education to humanities. Most elective courses are taught in English, allowing you to take full advantage of IAU College’s offerings. French language instruction is available at all levels of proficiency, from beginning to advanced. Semester students are required to take a French language course, while Summer students are encouraged, but not required, to enroll in a French language course.
Choose to take 2 or 3 electives. French language courses at all levels are also available. Courses meet for 45 contact hours/3 credits. You may earn 6-9 credits (up to 105 contact hours).
Classes meet 2 hours per day, Monday-Thursday. Active learning components required by your courses may be scheduled for Fridays.
Before you leave for Aix, you'll submit an IAU course selection form. If you're taking a language elective, you'll take a language placement exam after you arrive in Aix-en-Provence. You will be enrolled into courses based on their availability.
It is in your best interest to have multiple alternative courses approved by your home university prior to your departure due to course availabilities. To ensure that you receive credit for the language level you place into, have your home university pre-approve courses at several levels before you leave for France. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.
Founded in 1958, IAU College is one of France’s oldest and largest education abroad institutions. Courses in the humanities, social sciences, and fine arts are taught in your choice of French or English; you’ll attend alongside students from around the world.
When you study abroad in Aix-en-Provence, you can choose standard CEA housing—in an apartment, shared studio, or homestay—or arrange your own independent housing. Assignments are based on availability and confirmation date; we make every effort to match your housing requests, but we can’t guarantee housing preferences.
Life-Long Benefits I made friends I will have for the rest of my life. I learned a lot about not only France, but who I am and what I am capable of. Everybody should have the chance to study abroad because there are so many benefits.
