About the Program
Designed for students at all levels of Spanish proficiency, you’ll improve and refine your Spanish language skills both inside and outside the classroom. In this intensive language program, you’ll immerse into local language and culture alongside other international students. Language courses focus on oral comprehension and expression, listening comprehension, and grammar components appropriate to your language level. You’ll find Alicante is the perfect place to put your new and improved Spanish skills into action.

Established in 1979, the University of Alicante (UA) is one of Spain's most innovative, modern, and fast-growing universities, with an enrollment of 33,000 students and 32 degree programs. Every year, approximately 1,200 students from around the world attend UA to study Spanish language and culture.
Just a short bus ride (about three miles) from Alicante’s city center, UA’s campus encompasses more than 1,000 square meters of wooded areas (70% of the campus is dedicated to green space), a beautiful lake, and facilities that include a museum, art gallery, 24-hour library, indoor and outdoor sports stadiums, restaurants, and banks.
When you study at UA, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in a range of cultural, academic, and athletic activities, such as the intercambio language exchange program, political science seminars, and sporting activities like swimming, aerobics, and intramural sports teams.
Credit Transfer Information
University of Alicante awards credits based on the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) system. CEA CAPA credit hour recommendations are based on the following conversion: 2 ECTS credits equals 1 U.S. semester credit. Credit transfer is ultimately determined by your home university. Please consult with an academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.
Transcript Information
Students receive a transcript from the University of Alicante upon successful completion of the program. The transcript will reflect ECTS credits and contact hours.
Accreditation
The University of Alicante is recognized by the Spanish Ministry of Education as a degree-granting institution of higher learning.
Grading
Grade conversions from CEA CAPA partner institutions abroad to a US grading scale are determined in consultation with our School of Record and benchmarked with other peer institutions in the field.
Please note that CEA CAPA can only recommend grade conversions to students’ home institutions—it is ultimately at the discretion of the home institution to convert grades from abroad to students’ academic records.

Program Structure & Courses
You'll enroll in 3 language courses. Each course meets for 60 contact hours/4 credits. You may earn a total of 12 credits (up to 180 contact hours).
Language courses meet 3 hours per day, Monday-Friday. Semesters are organized into 4-week blocks; you may be tested at the end of each block and moved into a higher language level. In the fall semester you can choose from two different start date options (late August or late September).
You’ll take a language placement exam before you leave for Alicante. You’ll automatically be registered for your language courses. To ensure that you receive credit for the language level you place into, have your home university pre-approve courses at several levels before you leave for Spain. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.

Health & Safety
Health and safety are a top priority when selecting and reviewing program housing. When evaluating housing, CEA CAPA considers several factors including the surrounding location, commute time to academic or internship settings, as well as the condition of the building exterior and interior, common areas, the individual housing unit, and other living spaces. CEA CAPA works to ensure that program housing meets established minimum health and safety guidelines and aligns with best practices in the field.

Regular cleaning of communal areas for programs longer than 4 weeks.

Reliable internet access is included in every housing option we offer.
Students Per Bedroom
Typically 1–2 students per bedroom, with a maximum of 3 per room.
Commute Time
Housing is located within 60 minutes of campus by foot or transportation.
Temperature Control
Cooling and heating appliances are provided (AC not always included).
Kitchen Access
A shared space with basic utensils, refrigerator, freezer, and a stove, oven, or microwave.
Laundry
Access to laundry is guaranteed onsite or within walking distance. Drying racks included.
Study Space
A desk in your room or a table in a common area.
Storage Space
Practical, modest storage space for personal belongings.
Linens
Pillows, blankets and sheets.

Residence Hall Private Room
Discover vibrant student life in our residence hall. Live with other international, Spanish or U.S. students, within walking distance from campus. Public transportation is easily accessible to head downtown or to the beach. The residence hall offers air conditioning, central heating, a gym, study rooms, and a cleaning service. You'll enjoy a private room with a small kitchenette. A meal plan is not included.
This housing option is included in the program price.
Additional Options
To enjoy meals at the onsite dining hall without the hassle of cooking, you may add a meal plan on the housing application for a supplemental fee. Supplemental fees may vary depending on the included amenities as well as the length of the program. The exact amount will be provided on the housing application form.
Homestay Private
Semester Only
Immerse yourself in true Spanish daily life by living in a welcoming home located in the city. You'll enjoy the privacy of your own bedroom and may share the homestay with another students, fostering a unique group experience within a local setting. Homestay includes full board with 3 meals/day (Mon-Sun) and weekly laundry service. This option is ideal for students eager to fully immerse into the local culture, experiencing customs, cuisine, and traditions with their host family.
This housing option carries a supplemental fee that may vary depending on the included amenities as well as the length of the program. The exact amount will be provided on the housing application form.
Excursions
Get out and explore! Excursions are offered for most semester, year, and summer programs. Semester students are typically offered between two to three excursions and summer study students are typically offered between one to two excursions. You'll receive a calendar of excursions during orientation; here are a few day and overnight excursions we've offered in the past.
