Want to optimize your language learning by taking all your courses in French? Enroll in this immersive program, designed for all French language levels. Small class sizes and a broad liberal arts curriculum enhance your experience, allowing you to take elective courses focused on French culture and history. Language courses are offered at a range of fluency levels and for a range of credits. The Institut Catholique de Paris - Institut de Langue et de Culture Française faculty specializes in teaching French to non-native speakers, and you'll attend class with other international students who wish to improve their French proficiency.
The Institut Catholique de Paris, a private university founded in 1875, is located in the 6th arrondissement within walking distance of the Latin Quarter, Saint-Germain-des-Prés, and Montparnasse. CEA CAPA students enroll in courses with other international students at the Institut de Langue et de Culture Françaises (ILCF), the Institut Catholique’s center for French Language and Culture.
When you study abroad in Paris, you can choose CEA CAPA housing or arrange your own independent housing. CEA CAPA housing assignments are based on availability and confirmation date; we make every effort to match your housing requests, but we can’t guarantee housing preferences. Housing assignments in the Early Start portion of the program (Fall semester only) may differ from the housing assignments for the remainder of the semester.
Program Structure
The structure of your program will be based on the language level you place at on your language placement exam. The program is composed of French language courses, and/or language & culture electives. Based on your language level, you may be able to choose only a French language course, only French elective courses, or a combination of a French language course and French electives.
Language courses meet for 201-252 contact hours/13-16 credits; elective courses meet for 50 contact hours/3 credits. You may earn 16 credits (up to 252 contact hours) per semester and 32 credits (up to 504 contact hours) per academic year. You have the option to add contact hours to your program (extra fee will apply).
Language course schedules vary based on contact hours, elective courses meet once a week. Classes may be held in the morning or afternoon, Monday-Friday.
Prior to departure you will take an online language placement exam and select your courses. You will be enrolled into courses based on their availability and the result of your placement exams. It is in your best interest to have multiple alternative courses approved by your home university prior to your departure due to course availabilities. To ensure that you receive credit for the language level into which you place, have your home school pre-approve courses at several levels before you leave for France. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guideline.

Board the high-speed train Thalys and cross the northern border to discover the delights of the city of chocolates, waffles, and French fries. Observe the colorful architecture of the Bruges townhouses, climb to the top of the Belfry, and try to catch a glimpse of the North Sea. Listen to the rhythm of horse shoes as a horse-drawn carriage passes nearby. Discover the last brewery still operating in town and sample the local cuisine. End your journey relaxing in a tea room with the best whipped-cream-topped hot chocolate for the ultimate chocolate experience, before returning to Paris with a huge smile on your face…and a full tummy!

Follow the trail among ochre cliffs, a landscape that inspired Cezanne and Van Gogh. The next day, we’ll visit one of the most beautiful villages in France: les Baux de Provence and its castle. On the way back to Avignon, we’ll visit the open air "Provencal" market in Saint Remy de Provence, and stop at a wine cellar to sample "vin de provence" and local delicacies.

Before leaving, we’ll cross the border to Germany and enjoy a glimpse of the black forest and the city of Fribourg. You’ll also have the pleasure of tasting Alsatian wine in a small, family-run vineyard.
