About the Program
Designed for all levels of Spanish language ability, the Communication & Journalism program allows you to choose from a range of courses, taught in your choice of English or Spanish, as you delve into topics like the role of social media, photojournalism, and Spanish media. Instructors turn the city into your classroom, helping you gain insight into the new media landscape and different journalism approaches in Spanish society through active engagement with the host city, people, institutions, and culture. The location of the CEA Barcelona Center helps frame the curriculum, encouraging you to draw connections between your personal observations and the related topics addressed in class.

Program Structure
You’ll enroll in 1 CEA core course, and 3-4 CEA courses. Courses meet for 45 contact hours/3 credits. Overall, students may earn a total of 12-15 credits (up to 225 contact hours).
Typically, core and elective courses meet twice per week, Monday-Thursday. Active learning components required by your courses may be scheduled for Fridays.
Prior to departure, you will select your preferred courses and take a language placement exam. You will be enrolled into courses based on their availability. It is in your best interest to have multiple alternative courses approved by your home university prior to your departure due to course availabilities. If you choose to take a Spanish language or elective course, to ensure that you receive credit for the language level you place into, have your home university pre-approve courses at several levels before you leave for Spain. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.
