About the Program
Australia is a sporting nation, having hosted the Olympics twice and boasting many professional sports leagues like rugby, Australian rules football, basketball, baseball, cricket, and more; it is the ideal location to learn the ropes and kickstart a future career in a sports-related field. The CAPA Concentration in Sports and Leisure Studies offers the opportunity to explore topics such as the role of sports in the development of the Australian culture and identity; the theories, concepts, knowledge, and skills for managers in commercialized and community-based sports; and the techniques and strategies of sports marketing. Choose courses in Sports Marketing, Sport in Australian Society, and more; participate in a sports-related for-credit internship; plus have access to the full CAPA Sydney Global Cities curriculum.

- Be the equivalent of at least a 2nd semester Sophomore (strongly recommended)
Choose courses in Sports Management, Sports Marketing, and Sport in Australian Society, participate in a sports-related for-credit internship, plus have access to the full CAPA Sydney Global Cities curriculum. Overall, you’ll enroll in 2-3 CAPA courses. Elective courses meet for 45 contact hours/3 credits, the internship course meets for 45-90 contact hours/3-6 credits. Earn 6-9 credits.
CAPA Center courses meet Monday through Thursday.
Prior to departure, you will select your preferred courses. You will be enrolled into courses based on their availability. It is in your best interest to have multiple alternative courses approved by your home university prior to your departure due to course availabilities. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.
A transcript from the University of Minnesota is awarded upon successful completion of the program.

Get out and explore! Excursions are offered for most semester, year, and summer programs*. Semester students are typically offered between two to three excursions and summer study students are typically offered between one to two excursions. You'll receive a calendar of excursions during orientation; here are a few day and overnight excursions we've offered in the past.
Visit the dazzling Blue Mountains and Featherdale National Park where you can get up close and personal with kangaroos and koalas.
This excursion includes an overnight stay with dinner inside the Taronga Zoo.
