Location: Madrid, Spain
Primary Subject Area: Engineering
Instruction in: English
Course Code: ENG300
Transcript Source: Partner Institution
Course Details: Level 300
Recommended Semester Credits: 3
Contact Hours: 45
Prerequisites: Have basic knowledge of chemistry and fundamentals of materials science (crystal lattices and defects)

DESCRIPTION

This course examines how the structure, microstructure, and manufacturing processes of materials determine their properties and performance. Students will explore the main families of engineering materials and the techniques used to design, transform, and process them:
- Ceramic materials and glass: types, microstructure, fundamental properties, and forming and sintering processes.
- Polymeric materials: classification, molecular structure, mechanical and thermal behavior, and shaping and processing methods.
- Composite materials: principal categories, reinforcement and matrix interactions, and manufacturing and curing techniques.
- Metals: phase diagrams, mechanical properties, characterization of steels and cast alloys, and advanced processes including additive manufacturing.
