DESCRIPTION

This course is designed for students who have had little or no prior contact with the French language. The primary aim of the course is to build proficiency in the four areas of language competency: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Beginning French I introduces the basic structure of the French language with the immersion student in mind, and as part of active language acquisition and to help students engage in diverse, cultural experiences, the instructor will lead a limited number of discovery excursions into the city of Antibes.

This class requires daily preparation as well as a high level of engagement during class meetings. Students are asked to look/listen for patterns and contextual clues in order to gain a global understanding of situations and sense behind it. Classroom time is devoted mainly to speaking and practicing French through a combination of group-based and individual activities, focusing on grammatical structures, language functions and vocabulary.
