DESCRIPTION
This unit introduces the student to the medium of photograp and the ways in which photographic imagery can be constructed, perceived and deployed in the context of a journalistic report. The unit explores Photojournalism, looking into specific examples and discussing ethical and editorial issues relating to image taking and manipulation. It discusses awareness of privacy laws and of safety at work especially in hostile environments. Emphasis will be given in discussing specific examples of use or misuse of the medium and on developing ways of storytelling taking into account the editorial brief. Students will also begin to understand how the medium of photography has been transformed in the digital era and gain a basic camera handling and photo editing skills.
