DESCRIPTION
This module focuses on realist novels written in the nineteenth and twentieth-centuries, beginning with an early example of realist short fiction and including writers' attempts to disrupt or extend realist narrative conventions in the twentieth-century. The aim of the module is to read a wide range of realist fiction, from examples of social realism to realist fiction that speaks to emerging trends in modernist literary production to examples of contemporary postcolonial realism.
