The unit explores and analyses current policy issues in the tourism, hospitality and leisure sectors. The first half of the module identifies current policies problems, policy options and stakeholder interests. It will relate this to policy making theory, but will relate other relevant theories where topics require, for example chaos and complexity theory. The second half of the module considers how organised groups campaign to get their policy wants translated into, or influence, public policy.
The syllabus is be flexible to allow us to respond to a variety of issues as they arise. We define an issue as 'being of wider interest to any one particular individual, group, company or organisation, the resolution of which requires either purposeful action or inaction on behalf of the public sector (government, local government or government agency).'
