Required Supplies: During orientation, students will receive a list of textbooks they are required to purchase. Students will be expected to provide their own supplies from a supply list. Instructors will supply the lists during the first week of classes. Students should not purchase any texts and/or supplies before orientation.
This course is for students who have taken a beginning jewelry class and have a basic skill set of sawing, filing, and soldering. The technical demonstrations given during this course will include mechanisms, stone settings, catches and clasps as well as various casting techniques such as: cuttlefish bone, water, and straw. In conjunction with developing their technical abilities students will also be asked to develop their concept with the pieces they make. Referencing historical and contemporary sources to do so. The final works in this course are expected to display an accumulation of technical and conceptual knowledge developed through the semester. The projects to be completed may include; a brooch series, necklace and a small container or independent research project.
