DESCRIPTION
This Italian language and culture course will course explore Italian traditions and folklore and how they relate to contemporary Italian society. The course will examine the links between festivals, food, wines, tourism and the contemporary Italian economy. We will combine the learning of the Italian language with the food culture, utilizing food as a bridge to learning the language. We will shop at local markets, have hands on cooking lessons, learn about wine making and olive oil and use the Italian language as the way to get closer to people and traditions. Nowadays the image of Italy in the world is tightly connected with the global diffusion and promotion of its leading "Made in Italy" products, among which food and wines are the most important. This course will give students the opportunity to discover the reasons for this miracle through a wide range of hands-on cooking lessons, wine and food tasting, field trips and guest lectures.
