DESCRIPTION

This course focuses on the foundational professional skills required in psychological and related professional contexts. Students will learn effective communication techniques, interviewing and observation methods, basic assessment principles, teamwork and collaboration strategies, and essential ethical reasoning skills. Emphasis is on hands-on, experiential learning: role-plays, simulations, guided reflections, collaborative projects, a guest lecture by an experienced practitioner, and a field trip to a local mental health or organizational setting. By applying concepts in realistic exercises and reflecting on their experiences, students gain practical insight into professional roles, cultural sensitivity, and ongoing self-improvement.

This is a highly experiential and activity focused course and students are required to participate and open up. The course requires an openness to share and interact with other students during the experiential activities that make up the majority of the course.
