DESCRIPTION

This course introduces students to intersectionality theory and its use in analyzing and understanding the complexities of social inequalities. Through critical analysis, we will explore how different axes of inequality (such as gender, sexual orientation, social class, race/ethnicity, disability, language, or age) intersect and influence individual and collective experiences. Students will apply the intersectional framework to identify and formulate research questions that reflect these interconnections, and approach appropriate methodologies that take this theory into account to analyze the diversity of perspectives and experiences. The course will also emphasize reflexivity and positionality, inviting reflection on privileges, inequalities, and responsibilities in the research process. Ethical dilemmas that arise in this type of approach will be addressed, reflecting on how the social identities of those conducting the research can influence their work and results. Through practical activities, readings, and case studies, critical and creative thinking will be encouraged to address complex problems, promoting an innovative and localized approach that recognizes the specificities of each context. Students will acquire the necessary skills to analyze, understand, and address inequalities in a more profound and transformative way.
