DESCRIPTION

This course proposes a particular journey through Spanish literature and cinematography from the medieval times to present day through the lens of gender and violence. The selected corpus allows us to, on the one hand, gain insights into the some of the most celebrated literary works of Spain and the traditions these works are both anchored in and react to. On the other hand, the contemporary movies allow a distinctive glimpse into the recent cultural and artistic expressions and also show how these can be remodeled to violate and ridicule the established norms and social expectations.
