DESCRIPTION
This course aims to introduce students to a basic understanding of the brain's nervous system and its interaction with pharmacological agents. The course will cover brain neuro-mechanisms underlying pathological behavior and altered cognitive functioning. A special emphasis will be given to pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, as well as introducing the main pharmacotherapies for the major psychopathologies, such as the depression spectrum, the anxiety spectrum, and obsessive-compulsive disorders. In addition, the main psychiatric conditions, such as schizophrenia, ADHD, and autism spectrum, will be explored from the altered neurobiological perspective. Moreover, the course will look at the cultural and social issues in psychopharmacology.
