ART 333 Art in the Public Realm Full Curriculum Program 2021/2022 Year CEA & AAU Hybrid - Prague

In this studio class we explore the changing role and function of public art and socially engaged public practice.

In class we will explore questions such as: What is the politics of public space? Who are the public? What is the role of art in the public sphere? Who is a public artist responsible to? Who benefits, who collaborates and how? We will explore creative ways to respond to and expand this exciting practice. The class consists of image lectures, readings and in class discussions as well as creative studio assignments. Students are required to complete all assignments and readings in order to pass the class. There will be four creative project assignments. You may work in any medium you choose on the majority of assignments: from sculpture, to web based works, video, sound, performance, social practice, prints, photography, drawing, painting, zines, graffiti, sound based works and other creative possibilities. All work must be created for the public sphere.
