DESCRIPTION

A differential equation states how a rate of change in one variable is related to other variables. The focus of this course is an introduction to first-order, ordinary differential equations, linear differential equations with constant coefficients, two-by-two linear systems, Laplace transformations, phase planes, and stability.
Below are select topics that the successful student in this course will master:
- First-order differential equations
- Linear and exact equations
- Higher-order differential equations
- Homogenous and non-homogenous equations; reduction of order
- Spring/mass system
- Undetermined coefficients
- Laplace Transforms, Shift Theorems, Heaviside function
- Convolutions and Integral equations
- Series solutions of linear equations
- Power series solutions

In addition to in-course work and meeting the following discipline-specific objectives, students will
- Engage in active learning opportunities, both professional and cultural, meant to augment their general knowledge about the field of mathematics in France
- Adapt to culturally-specific teaching methods in mathematics as they may differ from American cultural standards
