International Reporting will give students a practical and varied approach to the roles, challenges and opportunities foreign correspondents face in reporting from global postings. The course will be a mix of readings, theory, discussion and practical exercises simulating the day in the life of a foreign correspondent. Students will be expected to pitch ideas for stories on a variety of topics with Prague as a home base. Assignments will be discussed in class with students gaining practice in both hard and soft news, writing both breaking news and feature stories on a range of topics. Guest speakers will share their practical experience and field trips will form the basis for story assignments. The instructor will place an emphasis on learning by doing and most sessions will feature in-class writing practice.
