DESCRIPTION
This course introduces ethnography as a method of data collection and empirical research which helps to understand the idea of history and how histories inform the present. The course highlights the value of interdisciplinary knowledge production by combining conventional research methods of historians with creative ethnography and material culture from anthropological perspectives. By discussing ethnography, students will learn social scientists look at phenomena by following perceptions of people while historians look through them by rethinking what was perceived. This course, as a skill-learning course, introduces students to ethnography, its interdisciplinary use, and how ethnography can be included in historians' toolboxes.
