DESCRIPTION

We start with a brief repetition of basic properties of living cells and then go ahead with in-depth discussion of modern Biomolecular Sciences, current and emerging topics, and experimental techniques. Planned topics presented by researchers in the field include: general cell organization and function, selected biomolecules, metabolic pathways or cell types, e.g.: energy metabolism, endothelial cells, cellular stress response, systems biology, protein sorting and membrane transport, host-pathogen interactions, single-cell gene expression, and human microbiome. Techniques/approaches in Biomolecular Sciences: basic techniques, (confocal) microscopy and live cell Imaging, protein labeling and visualization techniques, knock-out and RNAi techniques, single cell analysis. Students will also work on a literature assignment (in groups).
