5 Best Cafes in Grenoble, France

If you are like me and love anything that has to do with breakfast, then this is the article for you! In Grenoble, I have found the most perfect cafés for studying, having dates with friends, or just simply relaxing and enjoying a cup of coffee or tea.

Si tu es comme moi, quelqu’un qui adore le petit déjeuner, alors cet article te parlerait. J’ai trouvé des cafés à Grenoble les plus parfaits pour étudier, avoir un rendez-vous avec des copains, ou simplement détendre en buvant du café ou du thé. 

1. Neko Café

The Neko Café is a cat café. Yep, you read this right! Here you can enjoy a gorgeous bagel and pet some gorgeous kittens. Not only do you get your fix of animals while away from your own pets at home, it is also a great way to lower anxiety and get away from the bustle this city brings.

Neko Café est un bar à chats. Oui, c’est absolument vrai ! Là tu peux déguster un beau bagel en caressant les beaux chatons. Non seulement tu aurais ton fix des animaux de compagnies, mais en plus, les chats baissent l’anxiété et tu peux cacher de la ville animée. 

2. Tower Coffee

I stumbled upon this café with a friend while we were out shopping together. We were his second customers because he had just opened the day prior! He is such a nice guy and he offered us some free drinks to try and to let him know if he should put them on his menu or not. Such a great memory! He makes some killer coffees and detox smoothies as well. It is better than Starbucks, and I am biased since I am from Seattle!

Je suis tombée sur ce café par hasard avec une copine pendant qu’on a fait du shopping. En fait, on était sa deuxième cliente parce qu’il vient de l’ouvrir la veille. Il est un homme gentil et il nous a offert des boissons gratuites pour les essayer et puis lui dire s’il devrait les offrir sur le menu. Quel beau souvenir ! Il fait des cafés mortels et un Smoothie Green Detox.  C’est mieux que Starbucks, et moi, je suis partial comme je viens de Seattle !

3. Au Bonheur des Thés

Au Bonheur des Thés translates to “Happiness of Tea,” and this name is fitting -- it was my happy place here in the city. This tea salon is very zen. I came in at least twice a week to study, so the ladies there knew my usual: Strawberry Rhubarb; however, they have over 200 types of loose-leaf teas to choose from! You can even purchase 50 grams or 100 grams of whatever loose-leaf tea you love best to bring home as a souvenir. By the way, you must try their homemade Matcha Brownie!

Son nom, Au Bonheur des Thés, lui convient parce que ce salon de thé me rendait heureuse. Cet endroit est très zen. Je l’ai fréquenté au moins deux fois par semaine pour étudier, donc les femmes savaient que je prenais le même chose comme d’hab: la fraise-rhubarbe ; pourtant, il y a plus de 200 types de thés en feuilles ! Achète 50 ou 100 grammes de n’importe quel thé en feuille que tu désires pour un souvenir. N’oublie pas d’essayer leur Matcha Brownie, tout fait-maison !

4. Kai Iwi

Kai Iwi was my number one go-to breakfast spot on Sundays. As you may know, just about everything is closed on a Sunday in France (including restaurants), but I got lucky and found this gem hidden on a small path in town. Kai Iwi is based in New Zealand, so they speak English and have unique specialties that make this place memorable. They also have vegan and gluten-free options for those with dietary restrictions. As you can see below, their pancakes are to die for! 100% recommend.

Kai Iwi est mon numéro un sur tous les restos de brunch. Comme tu le déjà sais, presque tous sont fermés les dimanches en France, même les restaurants ; cependant, j’ai eu de la chance de trouver ce vrai bijou, caché à côté d’un petit chemin. Kai Iwi vient de la Nouvelle-Zélande, ils donc parlent anglais et ils ont des spécialités pour assurer une expérience marquante. Ils ont aussi des options végétaliennes et sans gluten pour ceux qui ont des restrictions alimentaires. Comme tu le vois, les pancakes sont superbes ! Je les recommande à 100%.

5. Pain et Cie

If you are looking for a classic French brunch place, Pain et Cie will give you that taste of culture. They have lots of outdoor seating for those warm sunny days because this place gets very packed. It is just around the corner from Kai Iwi. Open on Sundays!

Si tu cherches un resto classique Français pour le petit déj ou déjeuner, Pain et Cie t’offre ce gout de culture. Ce restaurant est bondé, il y a donc un tas de sièges, même à l’extérieur pour les belles journées plein de soleil. Pain et Cie et Kai Iwi sont proches; c’est Juste au coin de la rue de Pain et Cie que l’on trouve Kai Iwi. Ouvert les dimanches !
