Traveling Argentina

DSC00233-640x640

I think one of the things I wish I had known before coming to Argentina was how to travel.

It is not as easy as in Europe. I definitely did not expect it to be as challenging, but it is well worth it.

flight ticket to head back to
Buenos Aires from Iguazú.

Argentina is a huge country! I have found that it is very similar to traveling in the United States. Some flights are 3.5 hours, bus rides can  20+ hours, ferry rides can be about an hour, it all depends where you want to go.

The north part of the country offers a different experience than the south. The same can be said for the east and west. Every part of this country has something special to offer.

Planning is a great idea. A spur-of-the-moment trip going anywhere is not cheap. Traveling anywhere outside of the province of Buenos Aires will take you at least 10 hours by bus. Córdoba, a smaller city, is probably one of the closest destinations outside of the city.

Flying

I bought 3 flights for my eight day Patagonia trip for about $500. It took 3.5 hours to get to my first destination in Calafate and about a 4 hour flight back to Buenos Aires from Ushuaia.

At many places you will travel in a coach bus to get
to certain destinations within each city! For example, I
traveled by coach bus to get from my hostel to
Los Glaciares National Park in Patagonia.

Bus

Many of my friends have taken the bus to get to Patagonia. It is a lot cheaper, but the bus rides can be 24 hours. If you are looking to plan a trip in a shorter amount of time, then a bus might be your best option! You can save a lot of money by taking a 20 hour bus ride there and back.

If you plan your trips out  early enough your flights won’t be crazy expensive. It is all about how you want to spend your time and your money.

Ferry

The ferry ride to Colonia, Uruguay is only an hour. It was super easy and right across the river from Buenos Aires! Friends of mine have also taken a ferry ride to Colonia and then a 6 hour bus ride to Punta del Este.

 Cobble street in Colonia!

My best advice is to plan ahead as best you can and do some research about the place you would like to visit! At the CEA center or at the University of Belgrano you can find a travel agent who will help you find flights, buses, excursions, and hostels at every location you are looking to travel to! Take advantage of these resources because they have helped me a lot with traveling and feeling secure about where to go and what do to!
 Iguazú falls!

Argentina is a beautiful country! There is so much to see! From the waterfalls of Iguazú to the mountains of Patagonia, where ever you go, you will have a unique and unforgettable experience!
