Four Free Favorites

Jason-Prague-Spring-2017-Four-Free-Favorites-Blog-Header-640x640
I have about a month and a half left of my study abroad experience, so lately i have enjoyed just exploring Prague in my free time. The tourist attractions and activities are fun but I have found many other unique (and free) things to do all around the city. These are my four free and favorite things to do in Prague!
The funicular railway up Petrin Hill is free with
you student card and overlooks the park.

Petrin Park

The Petrin Tower (or mini version of the Effiel Tower) is a common tourist attraction but what most tourists do not realize is the surrounding park. The tower is situated on a hill surrounded by a huge, beautiful park with trails to hike, run, or bike, grass to picnic on, and spots to overlook the city. As the spring season sets in, the trees start to bloom and the scenery is breathtaking. You can either hike the trails to reach the top or take the funicular tram which is free with your student transport card.

This view from Petrin Park offers stunning views of the castle.

Narodni Galerie

The National Gallery located in Old Town Square offers free admission for students.

The National Gallery is located in Old Town Square and is the perfect place to spend an afternoon. The gallery has a wide range of art varying in style, time period, and technique. The gallery is open everyday of the week except Mondays and entrance is free upon presenting your student ID.
Queen Anne's summer palace also includes a beautiful garden where you sit and relax to enjoy the scenery.

Castle Gardens

The Prague Castle could be called the most prominent attraction of the city but its best kept secret is its gardens. What used to serve as the Queen’s summer palace and a location for royal activities and parties, the castle garden complex offers visitors a step back in time. Situated slightly away from the castle are the charming and pristine gardens that have just reopened for the spring. To avoid the crowds of tourists while still experiencing something historic, the gardens are the perfect place to stroll, stop, and relax. And the best part, entrance is free!

The gardens begin to bloom in the spring and open during April.

Troja Palace

One other lesser-known freebie is the Trajan Palace. Built in the Baroque Style in the late 1600s, the unique palace and its surrounding gardens give you a chance to get out of the city center. Located in Prague 7, the palace can be easily reached by a combination of public transport and takes about a half hour. The palace offers a different aspect of Prague and its history, and costs nothing to experience it.

The Baroque style Troja Palace is located just out of the city center and a great place to spend a few hours.

Springtime brings the blooming of beautiful cherry blossom trees at the Troja Palace.
