Unconventional Art in Seville

Seville is a bright and colorful city full of art in many different forms. There are many museums scattered throughout the city with a range from ancient to modern art, but the city offers more than just museums.

Architecture

Seville is an amazing city for architecture. Every street has amazing details and colors. From historic ancient works to more recent colorful buildings reflecting the charm and character of the city and to an exhibiton of Europe’s wildest architectural ideas.

Casa de Pilatos

Tucked away from the main streets of the city center is a beautiful late-15th century mansion with a mix of gótico múdejar, Renaissance and romantic styles. Complete with gardens and amazing statues inside it is an architectural treasure of Seville. Free admission for students on Wednesdays!

La Isla de la Cartuja

In 1992 Seville held an exhibition featuring over 100 countries and architects with the theme of “the Age of Discovery”. As a result this part of Seville houses a vast array of contemporary architectural works in many different styles.

Street Art

Wander almost anywhere in Seville and you will encounter a rich culture of street art. Near Plaza de Armas (the big bus station in the center) there are several huge murals.

A bit farther from the center of Seville near the Santa Justia train station you can find the neighborhood called Polígono San Pablo where many artists from all over Europe were invited to come and paint enormous murals in an attempt to brighten up the neighborhood.

Cementario de San Fernando

If you’re looking for a less typical art experience check out the cemetery of Seville. It is among the best romantic style cemeteries in Europe; full of statues and history. It’s a little away from the city center but is easily accessible by bus or the city bikes (Sevici).

There is art around every corner, I recommend getting lost and you’re guaranteed to find something amazing when studying abroad in Seville.
