Three Must-Tries in Prague

Three weeks ago I entered the Czech Republic with little knowledge regarding what Prague has to offer young students such as myself. However, after adventuring all over the city with my roommates and searching for different foods and activities, I’ve come up with three must-tries for a study abroad student!

U Bulinu

Budečská 2,

120 00 Praha 2

Braised lamb shank with garlic and rosemary, roasted beetroot, and chive mashed potatoes.

Just a 10 minute walk from my apartment, U Bulinu was the perfect restaurant to enjoy both classic Czech food and American dishes alike. You can enjoy roasted duck breast with port wine sauce sprinkled with pistachios or a double cheeseburger with bacon and french fries - they have it all! The best part? You can have a meal for two, including an appetizer and dessert, for under $30. Talk about ballin’ on a budget.

Wednesday Night Karaoke

Odborů 278/4,

120 00 Praha 2

Giving it my all for "My Humps" by The Black-Eyed Peas.

The nicely decorated hostel Mosaic House boasts Prague’s best karaoke for FREE, every Wednesday night at the La Loca Music Bar and Lounge. They have loads of hilarious throwback songs, including "I Will Survive" and "Baby Got Back", and the host is an English-speaking crack-up who randomly interrupts performances to do his own uncalled for rap extravaganzas. The music is loud, the crowd enthusiastic, and the fun is endless. Grab a load of friends and enjoy a night to remember.

IKEA

Chlumecká 664/10
198 00 Praha Černý Most

I know, I know, this seems like a silly place to visit while studying abroad in another country. But an adventure trip to IKEA gives you a glimpse of Czech scenery outside of Prague and a deliciously familiar meal under everyone's favorite blue-and-yellow awning. Hop on the metro for 45 minutes, take the free IKEA shuttle to the store, grab yourself some Swedish meatballs and mashed potatoes, then spend a few hours exploring and buying a few things you need on the cheap. Warning: A post-meal snooze fest on one of the many couches littering the gigantic warehouse is bound to occur.
